Neither of these images have been Photoshopped. And no, they're not from a movie set.
On Sunday, a 30-story-deep sinkhole appeared in Guatemala. It reportedly swallowed up a couple of buildings and appeared in the wake of Tropical Storm Agatha which killed at least 146 people and caused 150,000 across Central America to be evacuated. Agatha coupled with the continuing eruption of Pacaya Volcano (located just 19 miles from the capital) means that Guatemala is in a state of crisis.
Which begs the question: why is this morning's lead story by the majority of Australian media outlets about a former escort's grab for a piece of Richard Pratt's estate?
Makes you think, doesn't it?
oh my god!!! totally amazing & terrifying! imagine walking down to the morning milkbar for 2 litres of milk and coming across that!!
ReplyDeleteSuch crazy pictures - I didn't really understand what a sink hole was until I saw these pictures on the news. One of those ah-hah moments.
ReplyDeletewow! doesn´t seem real... we´re having a difficult year... floods, earthquakes... if someone still thinks there´s not such thing as a climate change, he must be blind...
ReplyDeleteOh how horrible those poor poor people, It makes me cry, I think so many are just becoming so desensitized to whats going on with the people around anymore. Its so nice to see that YOU care. great post full of thought!
ReplyDeletecertainly does!
ReplyDeleteand this hole scares me a little, it so perfectly round...
The same thing happened here in the States ... Can't remember what the lead story on this day was, but it certainly wasn't the devastation caused by the volcano, followed by the tropical storm, followed by the giant sinkhole in Guatemala! I had to search and search for the story ... One of my best friends is from Guatemala and spent more than a few days on the phone trying to track down her family members (who, thankfully, are all okay, though many of their homes aren't). Truly, something is wrong with the media's priorities!
ReplyDeleteNo way, this hardly seems real! That is SO scary.
